Thank you for logging into glo. Your visit just helped us plant more kelp!
Kelp are a group of brown algae found along 25% of the world’s coastlines. They play a critical role in maintaining healthy oceans – they help store carbon, provide food and shelter, and prevent excess buildup of nutrients in coastal waters. However, more than 40% of the world’s kelp forests have declined over the past 50 years due to climate change, overexploitation, and pollution.
In the Pacific Northwest, kelp has been used for centuries by Indigenous communities for food, medicine, crafts, and ceremonies. It’s an important part of both their culture and the local ecosystem.
Our project uses biodegradable ropes to grow kelp, supporting a zero-emissions approach.
By planting kelp, we can help bring marine life back, protect coastlines, and make ocean ecosystems stronger in the face of climate change.
